The 800th Anniversary of Moscow Medal was a medal in Russia. It was established by a decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 20 September 1947 in commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the first Russian reference to Moscow, dating to 1147 when Yuri Dolgorukiy called upon the prince of the Novgorod-Severski to "come to me, brother, to Moscow."[1]
As of January 1, 1995 it had been awarded approximately 1,733,400 people. It was worn on the left side of the chest, in precedence order after the 50 Years of the Soviet Militia Medal.
The medal itself was a copper coin 37mm in diameter designed by SL Tulchinsky and I I Dubasov. The rim was convex and all the inscriptions and images were in relief. It had a loop and ring connecting it to a pentagonal ribbon in moire silk, which was green with white vertical stripes - one of the left side, four white stripes, and three red stripes on the right side.
Medal "In memory of the 800 anniversary of Moscow" was made of copper and has the shape of a regular circle with a diameter of 37 mm. The obverse showed Yuri Dolgorukiy in a helmet, looking towards the left-hand-side of the medal. Along the rim, at the bottom, was an inscription which translated "The founder of Moscow, Yuri Dolgorukiy".
The reverse showed an image of the Kremlin, above the hammer and sickle flag, arms, laurel branches and the Cyrillic for the years 1147 and 1947. Along the rim at the top was an inscription which translated "In memory of the 800 anniversary of Moscow".
